We offer support for teaching through:
- Guidance, events and resources on: teaching and supporting learning at all levels; tutoring & demonstrating; assessment & feedback; digital education; personal tutoring; course and programme leadership; inclusive teaching; reviewing your teaching; academic transitions; supporting students as learners; and more
- A CPD Framework for Learning and Teaching which provides a rich array of opportunities for you to develop as a teacher and gain Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy

Innovation in teaching -ÌýPrincipal's Teaching Award Scheme
If you would like to develop a project focused on trying out something different in teaching and assessment, or on investigating your students’ learning experiences, then the Principal’s Teaching Award Scheme (PTAS) is ideal. PTAS can provide you with funding of up to £15K for these projects as well as guidance, support and networking led from the Institute for Academic Development.

The IAD provide resources on on mainstreaming common learning adjustments; guidance on inclusive and accessible learning; and supporting multicultural learning.

Getting started – processes and guidance for new/returning lecturers
Whether you’re approaching your first tutorial, lecturing for the first time or taking on your first course organisation or personal tutoring role, the IAD can help with:
- ‘Practical Strategies for…’ workshops series: short practical introductions to teaching topics
- Accredited programmes and awards focussed on teaching
- Workshops for tutoring and demonstrating
- Networks for undergraduate course organisers and those teaching and working with taught postgraduates
- A range of guidance materials, on personal tutoring, aspects of teaching, and much more
New members of academic staff are encouraged to participate in the two-day orientation to Academic Practice programme and to attend at least two optional courses from the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
